Play based learning What is “Play”? Pleasurable-play is an enjoyable and pleasurable activity. Play sometimes includes frustrations, challenges and fears; however enjoyment is a key feature. Symbolic-play is often pretend, it has a ‘what if?’ quality. The play has meaning to the player that is often not evident to the educator. Active-play requires action, either physical, verbal or mental engagement with materials, people, ideas or the environment. Voluntary-play is freely chosen. At Jack and Jill Kindergarten we welcome and value our families and extended families into our centre, we recognise the importance of families feeling welcome within the kindergarten environment. We view parents and families as the child’s first educator and nurturer and we aim to support families in this important task. Last Tuesday we invited families to attend an information evening where we discussed the routines of the Possum room, the importance of play-based learning and our transition to school program. Dear families, We hope you had a lovely break over Easter and we warmly welcome our families back who have been away on holidays. We also extend a warm welcome to our new friends, Alex, Annabel and Olivia in the Possum room. Congratulations to our Miss Lilly who has her announced her engagement to her fiance Charles Knox, they plan to marry in November. We are very excited for Miss Lilly and look forward to celebrating with her. This week the children are preparing for ANZAC day and are having discussions about what this means. Dear Families, Welcome to the beautiful Autumn, the mornings are slightly cooler and we look forward to admiring the Autumn colours. Last week we continued with educator training and focused on the area of Early Years Learning Framework. We discussed ways of documenting children’s learning and reflecting on principals and practices. We engaged in discussions about Belonging, Being and Becoming which underpins our practice.
